  2. HERE ARE SOME HELPFUL HINTS TO HELP WITH OTHER DOWNLOADS

  4. (at bottom special instructions for Windows Terminal)

  6. If you experience trouble downloading the AOL upgrades here on this BBS, be
  7. sure you have done the following:
  8.  
  9. 1) Select a protocol in your comm software before even logging on.  Know what
  10. it is.  A protocol is the method by which your modem and our modem talks to
  11. each other.
  12.  
  13. 2) Log on at 28.8, 14,.4, or 9600.  Downloads of larger software at speeds
  14. below 9600 will not have enough time to complete.  Again, configure this on
  15. your comm software.
  16.  
  17. 3) When you select the protocol on this end at the Protocol screen, be sure
  18. you have selected the SAME one as is set for your software.
  19.  
  20. 4) After selecting the protocol you will need to initiate the file transfer.
  21. This is usually done by clicking on the FILE menu (in the Windows Terminal,
  22. it is the TRANSFER menu) and then on the option for RECEIVING the file.
  23.  
  24. TO DOWNLOAD THE AOL SOFTWARE USING THE WINDOWS TERMINAL PROGRAM:
  25. ---------------------------------------------------------------

  27. 1) Select the correct Com port in the SETTINGS/COMMUNICATIONS.
  28.  
  29. 2) Set to 9600 baud or 19200 baud in the SETTINGS/COMMUNICATIONS.
  30.  
  31. 3) Select a protocol either XModemCRC or Kermit in your SETTINGS/BINARY
  32. TRANSFERS
  33.  
  34. 4) Dial the AOL BBS: You may type ATDT 1800...or place it in directly.
  35.  
  36. 5) Type in your name and password and go to the Software Area and select the
  37. correct version of software you want.
  38.  
  39. 6) Select the SAME protocol as you have set in your Terminal Software (either
  40. XmodemCRC or Kermit)
  41.  
  42. 7) Type the name of the file you wish to download below where it says "File
  43. Name."
  44.  
  45. 8) Click on the TRANSFERS menu and select RECEIVE BINARY FILE.
  46.  
  47. ***If you have other communications software (some possibly came packaged
  48. with your modem), we recommend you use that INSTEAD OF Windows Terminal.
  49. There are some problems that happen with the Windows Terminal causing
  50. downloads to take longer or abort.  Moreover, your other software probably
  51. supports Z-Modem, which is more effective.***
